PxRx athletes ready for Kona
World championships await
Three Punk Rock Racing athletes are now in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, ready to take on the world's best triathletes.
Sonja Wieck, Jeanne DeBonis, and Michelle Ford will start their 140.6-mile journeys early Saturday morning in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. After the 2.4-mile swim, they will bike 112 miles along the coast, where there is no shade, plenty of black lava rock, and some strong winds. Then they'll run 26.2 miles in weather that averages 85 degrees, but is often warmer.
The race is a challenge because only the best triathletes are even allowed to compete. These three women qualified by winning or placing in a previous triathlon (actually, multiple triathlons), thereby earning the right to race in Kona.
We are so proud of these world-class athletes, and we know they will more than hold their own Saturday. We'll be cheering for them all day, and you can join in the online party by watching live at the Ironman Championship website.
