PxRx athletes dominate in New Orleans

Sonja and Michelle reach the podium in the Big Easy

While most people visit New Orleans to experience one of the most cultural and historically rich cities in the United States, two Punk Rock Racing athletes made the trek to the French Quarter to dominate another Ironman 70.3 event this past weekend.

After Sonja (Wieck) and Michelle (Ford) finished carb-loading on Beignets (powdered sugar and fried donuts) it was all business for these two as they took on the modified triathlon course to claim two more podium spots and continued success in 2012.

The weather caused race officials to cancel the swim and modify the bike course so the day would consist of a run, bike, run scenario. We spoke with Sonja before the race about the last minute modifications and she was, as usual, unconcerned with circumstances out of her control and ready to race.

Sonja certainly was ready, finishing with an official time of 4:07:12, providing her with not only an age group win but first overall female amateur triathlete – and she bested a few of the professionals (guys and girls) in the Big Easy.

Not to let Sonja have all the fun, Michelle put up some impressive numbers of her own, and her 4:21:43 was good enough for an age group third place and a spot on the podium.

Congratulations to both Michelle and Sonja on another impressive day at the races.
